Luban alliance holds membership meeting in Tianjin

The second membership meeting of the Luban Workshop Construction Alliance (LWCA) was held in North China's Tianjin, from May 10 to 12. The alliance will be a  platform for accelerating the speed of construction, improving the quality and expanding the influence of Luban Workshop.

Sponsored by the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), the LWCA, and undertaken by the Tianjin Vocational Institute (TVI), the three-day event gathered over 300 representatives from the alliance's member units in the beautiful port city.

The event held a series of activities, including council meetings, seminars and forums.

In his speech, Wang Yongli, secretary-general of CEAIE, said the Luban Workshop must adhere to high-quality and sustainable development principle; sponsored colleges and universities must strengthen top-level design of work and continuously improve school-running capabilities.

He also called on efforts to deepen  demand-oriented international industry-education cooperation, and promoting diversified and characteristic overseas school-running based on the local situation.

Wu Jingsong, Level 2 counsel at the Ministry of Education, expressed his hope that the alliance will play an essential role in improving the working mechanism for building the Luban Workshop. He urged all member units to deepen international industry-university-research cooperation, innovate school-running models and promote people-to-people exchanges.

Luo Yan'an, deputy director of the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, said that the Luban Workshop is a famous international vocational education project originated, promoted, organized and implemented by Tianjin. It is a major innovational practice in the global development of China's vocational education. The city will continue to promote the project, develop it into a Chinese business card under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Xia Jingbo, Party secretary of TVI, said that as the chairman and secretariat unit of the alliance, TVI will, as always, work with the member units to improve the work level of the alliance, and make new contributions to construction and upgrading of the Luban Workshop.

Liu Bin, chairman of the alliance, made a work report in 2022 and work plan in 2023. He notified the expansion of the membership, and interpreted the regulations and work measures of the LWCA. Delegates at the meeting   unanimously approved the work summary and plan.

He Pei, director of the vocational education and training department of the CEAIE, gave a keynote report on the procedures to identify a Luban Workshop, the positioning and goals of the workshop, construction planning, future development ideas, and precautions for vocational education going global.

Parallel forums featuring Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and Arabia regions, or Q&A sessions targeting the workshop's operation also got positive participation.

After the meeting, the delegates visited the Tianjin Light Industry Vocational Technical College and the Tianjin Luban Workshop Construction Experience Hall to learn and share the experience and achievements of Luban Workshop construction.

As of today, the LWCA has 323 member units. In 2022, the CEAIE started identifying Luban Workshop operation projects. At present, 27 projects across the country have been identified as legal, qualified workshop operation projects.
