The online opening ceremony of the Madagascar Luban Workshop was held simultaneously in Tianjin, China, and Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, on Dec 22, 2020.

It is the 10th Luban Workshop built in Africa as part of Tianjin's efforts to implement the eight major initiatives unveiled at the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Madagascar Luban Workshop is located in the Higher Polytechnic Institute of Madagascar in Antananarivo, with a building area of 2,000 square meters. It is established by Tianjin Vocational College of Mechanics and Electricity, Tianjin Machinery and Electric Industry School, University of Antananarivo, and China Railway 18th Bureau Group.

The workshop has two majors of electrical engineering and automotive engineering in its first phase. In addition, it has one vehicle maintenance training base and eight professional training labs for senior maintenance electricians, hydraulics and pneumatics, modern electrical control, and automatic production lines.

In terms of teaching resources, the Madagascar Luban Workshop has tailored Chinese and English bilingual professional teaching materials based on the national conditions, education and teaching characteristics, and employment prospects in Madagascar. It has also provided skill training to teachers of the University of Antananarivo.

In addition, the workshop has been equipped with 113 sets of equipment for vehicle maintenance training, maintenance electrician training and assessment, advanced maintenance electrician training and assessment, hydraulic and pneumatic transmission comprehensive training, and engineering practice innovation.
