As a pivotal shipping outlet for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region located on the coast of the Bohai Sea, the port has actively seized development opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative and coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.  

The port has also made notable progress in integrating green and intelligent elements. 

It now features the world's first smart and zero carbon terminal, which is operated by smart technology and powered by solar and wind.

The unmanned and smart terminal which gives full play to high-tech solutions such as 5G, big data, blockchain, self-driving trucks, and AI-controlled robot workers, has seen improving performance. This year, the handling capacity of the terminal has increased from 80 containers per hour to 122 containers hourly, and ship volume has topped 3,000 up to date. 

The development and pilot operation of 25 intelligent self-driving trucks and 106 unmanned facilities that are participating in the terminal daily operations have enabled Tianjin port to increase efficiency and cut operational costs.

The building of automatic terminals is more cost effective, almost equivalent to the cost of one-third less than traditional terminals.

The port has 178 5G base stations to support intelligent, high-precision operations.

Tianjin Port has been expanding connections with ports both inbound and worldwide. It actively promotes cooperation with Hebei province’s ports, and strengthens connections in the Bohai Rim with new lines and ferries. The average growth rate of the branch lines newly added in the past three years in the Bohai Rim reaches 37.5 percent.

At the same time, it has extended trade ties with more than 800 ports in over 200 countries and regions. 

Up to now, more than 500 China-Europe freight trains have been dispatched from Tianjin Port. The total number of containers transported exceeds 50,000 TEUs, an increase of more than 79 percent year-on-year, ranking first among coastal ports in the country.

Tianjin Port Co., Ltd. handled 202 million TEUs of containers and 442 million tons of cargo in 2021. This helped the company achieve 14.47 billion yuan ($2.14 billion) in revenue and 1.8 billion yuan in profits.

As a major port in China, improvements in the port's transportation capabilities are expected to further support the country's logistics circulation and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei's regional economy.
