A first shipment of Peruvian blueberries – totaling 11.7 tons – arrived at Tianjin Port on Sept 18 after a 34-day journey. It was the first-ever import of South American blueberries through a port in northern China.

Peru, sometimes dubbed the "world orchard", is a global leader in exporting high-quality fresh blueberries. The Hass brand blueberries in this shipment are celebrated for their unique fruity aroma, rich flavor and exceptional nutritional value, making them a top choice for consumers worldwide.

The peak for the blueberry season is expected to commence in late October, when larger quantities of the fruit will arrive on the northern market via Tianjin Port. This influx is expected to ensure a steady supply of premium fruits to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and other areas of northern China.

The direct shipping route between South America and Tianjin Port, opened in December 2023, has significantly reduced transit times, creating a vital trade channel for fresh fruit imports. Since then, Tianjin Port has handled more than 30 voyages, establishing an efficient and convenient maritime logistics corridor.

This route not only facilitates the import of seasonal specialty products such as white shrimp, frozen beef, cherries and red wine from South America, but also supports the export of Chinese goods, including chemicals, glass, coiled steel and vehicles. The increased trade activities have notably strengthened economic ties between northern China and South American countries.

To guarantee the freshness and safety of the blueberries, Tianjin Port Group has deepened its collaboration with port units, enhancing terminal operations and overall service capabilities. Customized services have been implemented to expedite customs clearance at every stage of the process.

In a pioneering effort to create a green logistics channel for fruit transportation in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, hydrogen-powered trucks were deployed for long-distance transport, with temperature and sealing conditions monitored throughout the journey.

This batch of blueberries has been swiftly distributed to consumers through Wumart supermarkets and the Dmall app as it showcases the dividends of port economic development and allows the benefits to reach a broader consumer base.
