Xiao Guisen, the representative inheritor of a national intangible cultural heritage, gave the first lecture of the 2023 Tianjin Medical University Cultural Day event at the university on March 17.

The lecture theme was "Inheritance and Development of Chinese Drama". During the lecture, such topics as the origin of the skills and other intriguing stories aroused interest among students. The outstanding performances also illustrated the saying "practice makes perfect".

Xiao Guisen said that in recent years, he has visited primary schools, middle schools, and universities, sharing the inheritance and development of Chinese opera. "This is my responsibility as a representative inheritor of our traditional culture. We not only need to have exquisite skills, but also need to find ways to pass on our skills and allow them to continue to thrive!"

Initiated by the university in 2020, the event invites experts and scholars from various fields, including literature, drama, fine arts, and folk art, with the aim of enriching campus cultural life and expanding student activities. The city’s intangible cultural heritage projects have been given special attention, with inheritors of Yangliuqing New Year Pictures and Kite Wei having been invited to demonstrate their skills to students.

Over 50 cultural lectures have been held under the initiative, becoming a popular way to promote intangible cultural heritage.
