This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan.

During the period, Tianjin will embark on a new development effort to its grand new chapter of building a modern socialist metropolis and create a scheme of "twin towns"-namely the downtown and the coastal town area.

We released the series of Tianjin Insight, which presents a panoramic view of the port city’s evolution and achievements via lens of expats in the city.

This episode is about Renato Pegoraro, a restaurant owner from Milan, Italy who has been in China for 20 years.

He has been amazed at the “earth-shaking changes” that have taken place in Tianjin in the past two decades, as the city has developed rapidly with the times.

Pegoraro said he loves Tianjin’s Italian Town, a scenic spot with a history of 119 years and more than 100 Italian-style villas in the city, adding that it reminded him of many Italian towns, especially those in the north of Venice.

He started Venetian Restaurant, the first Italian restaurant in Tianjin, in the town in 2008.

During the epidemic outbreak last year, the local government helped him out by giving him a rent deferral, which he said was a “great help”.

Since the outbreak is under control this year and more people have been visiting, Pegoraro’s restaurant has been doing even better.
