This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan.

During this period, Tianjin will embark on new development efforts in its grand new chapter of building a modern socialist metropolis and create a scheme of "twin towns"－namely the downtown and coastal town areas.

We released the series of Tianjin Insight, which presents a panoramic view of the port city’s evolution and achievements through the eyes of expats living in the city.

This episode tells the story of Joseph Shumway, an obstetrician and gynecologist from the United States.

Shumway has been working in Tianjin since December 2019. His job allows him to make connections with Tianjin’s people.

He said Tianjin is “remarkable”, “family-centered” and safe. In his eyes, as a modern efficient metropolis, Tianjin is well-poised to grow greatly and become “a world center of art and a world center of culture”.

He speaks highly of the efforts made by local authorities to make sure the expat community is treated fairly and can live conveniently in the city. The diversity of expats adds significantly to the city’s growth.

He hopes China and the US can continue to engage in a positive way in the future. He will continue to work in the hospital and be a good example of what people from the US are like.
