Jizhou district in the northernmost part of Tianjin is creating the world’s second Eden project after the United Kingdom, transforming a defunct coal mine from pit to paradise.

Located near the city’s must-see Panshan Mountain, Jizhou's Eden project has an investment of 10 billion yuan ($1.55 billion) and will cover 1.19 square kilometers.

Following the UK’s Eden concept, authorities plan to turn the decommissioned mine into an ecological, educational and leisure destination. 

Since the project started construction in March of last year, its overall development has progressed smoothly. At present, the exhibition center and nature education camp have been completed and opened to tourists. On August 1, 2020, the project held an international ecological education forum. The project is expected to lure tourists, create jobs and generate tax revenue when fully functional.
