Updated: 2018-05-14

The Club, also called the British Ballroom, was initially opened about 1860 accompanied with the Lyceum Theatre. Raised financially by the immigrants of the British Concession in Tianjin, the Club served the British immigrants as an entertainment center for holding balls and pink-tea parties, as well as enjoying concerts and operas.

The preserved building was reconstructed in 1904, located at 201 North Jiefang Road, Heping District and listed as the heritage site under city protection and the special protection historic architecture in Tianjin. The building is used as office building nowadays, covering an area of about 7300 square meters, and about 3000 square meters in floor area.

The brick-wood composite construction is two-storied, plus its basement. As a symmetrical design, the building attracts people's attention to its vertical structure by locating the massive Ionic columns orderly between the windows. Rich in exterior decoration and variation of the arched windows, it tastes to be typically in Eclectic style.
